Registered Social Worker 





Position Title:    Registered Social Worker

Classification:    Full Time 

Location:             Tsilhqot’in National Government


The Tsihqot’in Health Department is seeking to hire a Registered Social Worker to work in the six communities of the Tsilhqot’in Nation.  This position will work closely with Caribou Memorial Hospital and other health care facilities to support community members who are receiving services by assessing, understanding and influencing the social determinants of health, as well as address practical, emotional, social and economic barriers that prevent individuals from benefiting fully from the skilled care of other health professionals. This position will also be responsible for helping patients/clients and their families to negotiate complex systems, build solid support networks, cope with stress, and strengthen or restore their ability to self-manage. Remuneration is $ 32 to $35 per hour depending upon experience.





Education & Experience 

       Degree in Social Work. 

       Two (2) years’ recent experience working with diverse clients and adults with chronic and acute illness, mental health issues and social barriers or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. 

       Current full registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers.

       Experience in direct service, community-based healthcare delivery systems and experience working with First Nations people and leadership (including Elders, Bands, Tribal Councils, Aboriginal service providers, etc.) 

       Local area travel may require the use of personal vehicle. 

       Valid BC Driver’s License. 

Knowledge & Abilities 

       Comprehensive knowledge and demonstrated ability to apply case management principles. 

       Broad knowledge of case management and practice within a client and family centered care model for clients with health/mental health care needs. 

       Demonstrated ability to apply systems theory to practice in Social Work assessment and intervention. 

       Demonstrated ability to conduct social and psychosocial assessments 

       Broad knowledge of systems thinking as it relates to the social work process. 

       Demonstrated ability to utilize mediation, conflict resolution and counselling skills. 

       Comprehensive knowledge of evidence based practice related to care of clients or service users needing supportive case management. 

       Comprehensive knowledge of other health disciplines and their role in client care. 

       Comprehensive knowledge of adult education principles, methods and tools.  

       Demonstrates ability to problem solve using sound judgment in applying critical thinking skills within safe limits of client care. 

       Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and work direction. 

       Demonstrated ability to teach, demonstrates, coach and facilitates clients and families. 

       Demonstrated ability to develop and implement project action plans and accomplish objectives.

       Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team of service providers.
