Within TRIUMF, our Plant Group fulfills a critical role in ensuring the necessary infrastructure used in the operation and maintenance of our facility is maintained, including water, air, and heating/cooling.   In support of these activities, we are currently looking to recruit an experienced Mechanical Technologist or Millwright who will be responsible for the oversight of the day-to-day activities of the Group, which includes managing multiple projects, preventive maintenance and responding to fault reports.  If this is the kind of work that you are passionate about, we encourage you to apply!  This hands-on, service oriented position will provide you with the opportunity to:

·           Initiate projects that will enhance operation and/or functionality

·           Provide work direction for crane operator, rigging crew and millwright assistant

·           Oversee outside service providers for inspections of back flows and sprinklers, boilers, cranes and DI water systems

·           Develop and implement preventive maintenance on cooling tower, pumps and compressors

·           Provide maintenance and initiate repairs for boilers, cranes, forklifts and HVAC systems

·           Manage maintenance data and equipment records, and provide inspection reports for calibrations and inspections

·           Monitor site air compressors and initiate repairs or improvements on the systems

·           Consult and advise on the feasibility and practicality of mechanical designs, the adaption and modification of equipment and devices, and on projects for feasibility of installation, reliability and maintenance

·           Oversee ground maintenance

·           Perform analysis of hazards related to project tasks and propose mitigating strategies

·            Be trained on-site and certified as a TRIUMF Nuclear Energy Worker 


During an interview, you will be asked to show the hiring committee that you have the following abilities, skills, knowledge and training:

·         A practical, in depth knowledge of mechanical systems and the ability to adapt these skills to work effectively with TRIUMF’s existing infrastructure; systems include compressed air, megawatt class process water cooling, cranes, hydronic heating and cooling, HVAC and plumbing

·         The ability to develop and implement a documented preventive maintenance program

·         Strong communication skills combined with the ability to work effectively as a team leader and understand and exercise the role of safety supervisor under the Worker’s Compensation Act and OHS Regulations

·         A Mechanical Engineering Technology diploma or a Journeyman Millwright trade certificate

·         At least 5  - 7 years of practical, relevant, and specialized experience with the operation and maintenance of mechanical system relevant to TRIUMF
