Deputy Minister, Education and Early Childhood Development
| More

The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development has a broad mandate that includes responsibility for early childhood development and the education of children and youth through the public school system. The Department works to ensure children in their early years have the support they need for a positive start to school, works to ensure students benefit from a quality primary to 12 education, and works with teachers, school boards, community partners, and many others to provide children, students, and families in Nova Scotia with a strong foundation for success.

The Deputy Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development serves as the Department’s executive head, a key point of accountability, direction, and collaboration within the education system and an integral member of the leadership team of the Nova Scotia public service. As the Deputy Minister, you will lead planning and prioritization to promote good governance, develop and communicate priorities and strategic direction, and drive performance within the education system in Nova Scotia. You will provide sound advice on policies and processes and develop effective, open, and consultative relationships with key stakeholders. By providing leadership and direction in the effective implementation of the Department’s core business functions, you will improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and economy of the Department’s operations and ensure quality service is provided to the public.

A proven leader in the education or public sector, you have significant experience managing services and multiple stakeholder relationships within a complex environment.  You understand systems thinking and are fluently conversant with how the education system operates today and will serve as a champion of the continued transformation of that system in order to provide access to a quality education and a brighter future for students and for the province. Collaboration, creativity, tenacity, and accountability are the hallmarks of your leadership. You are comfortable working within a publicly accountable context and hold yourself to the highest standards of professional public service. You are committed to student success and to the renewal of Nova Scotia’s education system in order to provide all students with the chance to reach their full potential.
