Naru Japanese restaurant (NS) Ltd. is looking for a Cook (permanent / full time position).
- Job title: Cook, Ethnic Foods (NOC 6322)
- Terms of employment: Permanent & Full time Position
- Location: 216 Bentinck St, Sydney, NS B1P 1G8

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the kitchen operations
- Check the quality of raw and cooked products
- Check the quantity and quality of received products
- Season and cook food according to recipes or personal judgment and experience
- Supervise and coordinate work activities and schedules of kitchen staff engaged in food preparation
- Weigh, measure and mix ingredients according to recipes or personal judgment, using various kitchen utensils and equipment
- Prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes and foods, which include sauces, soups, salads, vegetables, meats, poultry and/or fishes
- Prepare dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerance
- Determine food portions and develop menus
- Maintain sanitation, health, and safety standards in work areas
- Create high quality sushi by cooking rice, rolling sushi, and cutting rolls
- Maintain inventory and records of food ingredients, supplies and equipment
- Estimate expected food consumption and requirement
- Place purchase orders and/or requisitions for procuring necessary, food ingredients, supplies, etc.
- Inspect kitchen and food service areas
- Train kitchen staff in preparation, cooking and handling of food

Cuisine specialties
- Japanese cuisine

Academic, Training and Experience Qualifications
- Secondary school graduation certificate required
- Several years of previous experience in commercial cooking industry required

Work conditions and physical capabilities
- Fast paced environment, Work under pressure, Tight deadlines, Handling heavy loads, Physically demanding, Combination of sitting, standing and walking, Standing for extended period of time, Attention to details, bending, couching, kneeling

Work Site Environment
- Wet/damp, Noisy, Odors, Hot

- Salary: $13 per hour for 40 hours a week at 52 weeks a year

Flexible Working Hours
- Day, Afternoon, Evening, Night, Weekends

- Vacation pay: 10 days paid vacation or 4% remuneration of total gross salary
